WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The U.S. Senate on Tuesday confirmed the nomination of Federal Reserve (Fed) Governor Lael Brainard as central bank vice chair, making her the first of four nominees chosen by President Joe Biden to remove this procedural hurdle.

The confirmation vote came ahead of the Fed’s monetary policy meeting next week, when officials are expected to take more aggressive action to tackle runaway inflation by raising interest rates and reducing the central bank’s balance sheet.
