With 415,000 deaths, the virus is the third leading cause of death in the United States for the second consecutive year.

Covid will have been more deadly in the United States in 2021 than in 2020. According to data published on April 22 by the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), more than 415,000 Americans died after infection with Sars- CoV-2 between the 1er January and December 31, 2021, compared to 350,000 the previous year. The total rises to 460,000 by adding patients who died “with” Covid, without the cause of death being directly attributed to the virus. Covid has thus gone from 10% of the causes of death in the country to more than 13%, and has contributed to a 0.7% increase in mortality in the country. For the second consecutive year, the disease is the third leading cause of death in the country behind cancer and cardiovascular disease.

Experts note that some populations have seen changes in death rates, although demographic patterns have remained similar over the two years. The death rate has gone down…
