iciHaiti - FLASH USA : Travelers alert, rage in Haiti

The United States Federal Agency for Public Health Protection (CDC Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) has issued a Rabies Alert in Haiti for US travelers.

According to the Agency, there is “an increased risk of transmission of rabies by dogs and cats in Haiti”, stressing in its alert “There is a shortage of rabies vaccines in Haiti. Travelers may not have access to a vaccine” and advises travelers to Haiti to “do not touch dogs or cats” during their stay.

The CDC recommends that if you are bitten, scratched, or even licked by a dog or cat, seek immediate medical attention, even if the person has been vaccinated against rabies in the past.

The agency emphasizes that it should be anticipated that the required care could be administered outside of Haiti, as rabies vaccines may not be available at the time of the incident.
