BeReal, the French social network taking off in the United States

Long under the radar, the French social network BeReal has suddenly gone viral in the United States. There, at the beginning of April, it reached first place in social network downloads on the Apple and Google application stores. According to data aggregator Data IA, “Over the past two weeks, BeReal has seen 710,000 downloads on iOS and Google Play combined, a 137% increase from downloads in the previous two weeks”.

The principle of the application is relatively simple. Every day, at a random time, the user receives a notification prompting them to post a “BeReal”. This is a photo taken by both cameras (front and back) that shows what the person is doing. The user must be honest and show what he is really doing, without the possibility of editing or filtering.
